Our Treatment Process
Every teen's smile is different. Here's how we approach treatment with braces from start to finish.
Initial Evaluation
We start with a thorough exam, including X-rays and photos, to get a complete picture of your teen's teeth, jaw, and bite. This gives us what we need to recommend the right type of braces and build a treatment plan tailored to them.
Communication & Education
We'll walk you and your teen through exactly what we have found and what treatment will look like. From how long to expect treatment to last, to what to eat and how to care for their braces, we make sure you both leave feeling informed and confident about the road ahead.
Braces Treatment
Once braces are placed, we'll schedule regular adjustment appointments to keep things moving on track. Our team is always available to address any discomfort, answer questions, or make changes as needed throughout the process.
Monitoring & Follow-Up
We'll check in regularly to track progress and make sure treatment is developing as planned. Once braces come off, we'll transition your teen into a retainer to protect the results and keep their smile in place long term.
Types of Braces
Not all braces are the same. Depending on your teen's needs, goals, and lifestyle, we may recommend one of the following:
Traditional Metal Braces
The most common and time-tested option, metal braces are highly effective for treating a wide range of orthodontic concerns. Today's metal braces are smaller, more comfortable, and more efficient than ever, making them a reliable choice for teens at any stage of treatment.
Clear/Ceramic Braces
Ceramic braces work the same way as metal braces but use tooth-coloured brackets that blend in with the smile. They're a great option for teens who want effective treatment without the look of traditional metal hardware.
Self-Ligating Braces
Self-ligating braces use a built-in clip instead of elastic ties to hold the wire in place. This can mean fewer adjustments, less friction, and a more comfortable experience overall, while still delivering precise, effective results.
Lingual Braces
Lingual braces are placed on the inside surface of the teeth, making them completely hidden from view. They're a discreet option for teens who want the effectiveness of traditional braces without any visible hardware.
Which Type of Braces are Right for my Teen?
That depends on their specific needs and preferences. We'll walk you through all the options at your consultation and help you make the decision that makes the most sense for them.
How Long Does Treatment Take?
Most teens complete braces treatment within 18 to 24 months, though this varies depending on the complexity of the case. We'll give you a more accurate estimate after your initial evaluation.
What Happens After Braces?
Getting your braces off is a big milestone, but it's not quite the finish line. Keeping your teen's smile in place after treatment is just as important as the treatment itself.
Retainers
Once braces come off, we'll fit your teen for a custom retainer. Retainers hold the teeth in their new positions while the surrounding bone and tissue settle. Skipping this step is the most common reason teeth shift back, so we take it seriously and make sure your teen understands why it matters.
